During her speech after winning Video of the Year at this year's ceremony, the 'Evermore' artist made a surprise announcement regarding the highly-anticipated album.

AceShowbiz - Taylor Swift made a surprise announcement at the 2022 MTV VMAs on Sunday, August 28. At the event, which took place at the Prudential Center in Newark, the "Evermore" artist revealed to fans that she's set to release her next full-length album on October 21.

"I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand new album comes out October 21," the "All Too Well" hitmaker said during her award acceptance speech after winning Video of the Year for her work in the 10-minute music video for "All Too Well (Taylor's Version)". "And I will tell you more at midnight."

Following a countdown on her website, the celebrated singer/songwriter, who also won Best Longform Video and Best Direction at this year's MTV VMAs, took to her Instagram account to share details about her upcoming album, which has been revealed to be titled "Midnights". She wrote, "Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight."

In her post, Taylor also shared a picture of herself cradling her head in a darkened room. She wrote over the snap, "This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching - hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve… we'll meet ourselves."

The highly-anticipated set will follow up Taylor's one-two punch of "Folklore" and "Evermore". Both of them were nominated for album of the year at the Grammys, at the 2021 and 2022 ceremonies, respectively, and "Folklore" won the top prize.

After releasing "Evermore" in December 2020, Taylor re-recorded versions of her first six studio albums. "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" and "Red (Taylor's Version)" scored two of the biggest debuts of 2021 on the Billboard 200. The 10-minute version of "All Too Well" also topped the Hot 100 chart following its release last November.
