AceShowbiz - Abby Lee Miller is officially leaving the reality series that made her famous. The founder of Abby Lee Dance Company announced her departure from "Dance Moms" through a tribute post nine years after she made her debut, but she assured fans that she did not breach her contract.
The 54-year-old bid goodbye to the Lifetime series on Monday, May 4. Along with a photo of her smiling while signing papers, she wrote on Instagram, "Nine years ago, we were in AZ filming Dance Moms. Satan stuck a pen in my hand insisting that I sign a contract! I was at the competition, literally in front of the stage, rehearsing a routine. I was kinda busy! But the show must go on, right?"
"I did my 8 seasons, 2 spin offs and now a new self contained competition show in the midst of our global pandemic," she continued. "Thank you Lifetime for an incredible run and all I have learned. But I have decided to move on and not extend my agreement. The next few weeks will be about exploring new projects at a new home. It’s an exciting time and more announcements to come!"
In response to Abby's post, a troll pointed out at possible legal matter by writing in the comment section, "We love a breach of contract!" Abby, however, was quick to reply, "nope my contract was up April 30, 2020." She offered similar statement when a fan asked her to not quitting, "oh I'm not quitting my contract is finished!"
When another fan suggested that her exit was prompted by the series' ratings, the TV personality once again stressed, "nope we were their 2nd highest rated show!" In the same comment, she reminded the fan, "Further more Dance Moms save lifetime back on 2011!"
Still, Abby did make an interesting revelation when one fan told her that her departure from the show has come as a shock. "@lifetimetv had 8 months to begin shooting season 9 with an incredible cast of kids & moms," she noted. "we were their 2nd highest rated show! They just kept extending my contract a few months at a time instead of ordering another season!"
During her period starring on "Dance Moms", Abby has gone through several personal and legal troubles. Back in 2017, she had to take a break from the show to serve a 366-day jail sentence for bankruptcy fraud charges. While she was released early from prison in May 2018, she came out with a Burkitt lymphoma diagnosis. She was finally declared cancer-free in May 2019.
