The No Doubt frontwoman and the country music singer allegedly find it 'complicated' to find the perfect surrogate as they have been trying to make their dream a reality for years now.

AceShowbiz - Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton might be ready to expand their family since the day they tied the know, but the process has apparently become so challenging for them. The couple reportedly has been reviewing potential surrogates, but somehow their plans always fell through.

"Gwen and Blake have been wanting a baby of their own for years now. They've had surrogates on board, but something always seems to fall through at the last minute. It's been a struggle," sources tell The National Enquirer (via RadarOnline.com). "They've even talked to other celebrities who've used surrogates successfully, like Nick Jonas, whom they befriended on 'The Voice'."

"It must be a complicated situation," one of the sources notes. "Maybe something just didn't feel right for Gwen or Blake or both of them. In one instance, friends say Gwen wanted to use a surrogate in California and Blake wanted someone far removed from Hollywood. In another case, the surrogate backed out because of the pressure. When it doesn't work out, it's wrenching for Gwen and Blake."

The report goes on to claim that choosing the right woman to make their dream a reality is "an emotional process for the couple." The source adds, "They both want to connect with the surrogate because there's a lot at stake. It's a huge commitment and they just want to get it right."

While the process has been quite challenging, Gwen and Blake have faith that they will soon find the perfect surrogate. While this whole process has been extremely difficult for them, it's really brought them closer together," the informant claims. "Blake just wants Gwen to be happy and she wants the same for him. She knows he desperately wants to be a dad."

Should the news be true, this will put to rest the split rumors for once and all. Fans have noticed alleged clues that there could be a rift in the couple's marriage over the last few months. They pointed out that the pair had snubbed each other's projects and written cryptic lyrics. Fans also believed that the two might be facing marital issues as they seemed to be ditching each other for a night out.

Life & Style further reported in February that the couple had been spending time away from each other. "It's been frustrating. Their relationship of late has been a lot of texting and talking on the phone," a source told the outlet.

Seemingly to squash the rumors, Gwen joined Blake onstage at his concert in Glendale, Arizona in March. At the time, the pair treated the concert-goers to duet performances of their songs, including "Happy Anywhere", "Nobody But You" as well as their newest single "Purple Irises".
