AceShowbiz - Kanye West is supporting charities in his hometowns of Chicago, Illinois and Los Angeles amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

As World Health Organisation (WHO) officials advise people to practice social distancing and stay home in a bid to prevent the spread of the virus, an increasing number of families are turning to charity for support as they're forced to skip work.

Helping keep organizations afloat during the difficult time, Kanye has made generous donations to We Women Empowered in Chicago and The Dream Center Los Angeles to help those most in need receive meals.

We Women Empowered supports the elderly located on the southside of Chicago, where Kanye grew up.

Josephine Wade, who runs the operation, tells Access Hollywood, "Today when I got that call, that Kanye West wanted to help the elderly in Chicago and he chose his hometown in the South Side, his old neighborhood, I was beyond words. And in one phone call, in an instance today, our world was changed."

Meanwhile, The Dream Center Los Angeles provides meals at their "drive-thru" for those in the local area affected by the coronavirus outbreak. It is currently serving 7,000 meals a day and expects to serve as many as 9,000 as the crisis continues.

Stars including Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Kristen Bell, and Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have also donated to coronavirus relief efforts.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has seen more than 252,000 cases of the virus registered globally, resulting in a death toll of over 10,400, since it began in December (2019).
