Discussing studies that Americans purchased less wine overall in 2019, Ryan Seacrest reveals his 'Live with Kelly and Ryan' co-host stopped drinking when he joined the show.

AceShowbiz - Kelly Ripa believes she plays a part in the decline of wine sales. In a recent episode of "Live with Kelly and Ryan", the morning talk show host was discussing with co-host Ryan Seacrest about studies that Americans purchased less wine in 2019, and revealed that she has quit drinking alcohol.

During the Monday, January 20 broadcast, the wife of actor Mark Consuelos first brought up the topic as stating, "They're saying that Americans bought less wine last year. It's the first drop in a quarter of a century." She then made her point, "Now, I believe this is because I quit drinking that I caused this dip. I'm not saying I've driven people out. I'm saying I stopped buying wine and there's a 25 percent dip."

When Kelly didn't offer the reason why she stopped drinking, Ryan was quick to quip that she quit around the time he joined the show in 2017, a year after the departure of Michael Strahan. "I started the show and she quit drinking," he playfully retorted. "What does that tell you? I don't know...It that good or bad?" To which, Ripa replied, "Exactly. It's amazing!"

Although she stayed mum on her decision to stay sober, Kelly is known to have followed strict diet and exercise regimen to keep a fit body. Back in 2015, she opened up about practicing the high-alkaline diet by avoiding such acidic foods as yogurt, fish and sugar, and focusing on vegetables like beets, broccoli and kale.

"It has changed my life, it's changed the whole way I think about food," the 49-year-old said at the time. "The alkaline diet is primarily a vegan diet, but I like cream in my coffee. I like to have a glass of wine. So I don't adhere to it strictly, but when I do a cleanse, it will be seven days, and then I go back to my normal life." She added, "It's a very manageable cleanse. It's very manageable."
