A larger memorial for the 'Boyz n the Hood' director, who died on April 29 after being taken off life support following a stroke, is reportedly planned by his family in a few weeks.

AceShowbiz - John Singleton will be laid to rest in a small, intimate family funeral on Monday, May 06.

The "Boyz n the Hood" director died on 29 April, hours after his family members revealed they were taking him off life support following a stroke in Los Angeles on 17 April.

The 51-year-old's relatives will bid farewell to the writer and filmmaker in a private ceremony in Los Angeles, described as "a very small, intimate goodbye for family and very close friends," according to a representative.

It will not be open to the public, although Singleton's loved ones are "planning a larger memorial for John in a few weeks to celebrate his life".

On Friday, organisers of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York decided to add a free screening of "Boyz n the Hood", Singleton's critically-acclaimed 1991 directorial debut, for the general public.

"John Singleton accomplished what all creators strive to do. He entertained but also inspired generations of audiences and artists," officials wrote in a statement.

Tribeca Film Festival announced a free screening of 'Boyz n the Hood' to honor the late director.

The funeral news emerges shortly after the late star's mother, Shelia Ward, filed her son's last will and testament in court.

The document, obtained by TMZ, was signed back in 1993, when he only had one child - his 26-year-old daughter Justice Singleton.

The will grants her his estate, which is reportedly worth at least $3.8 million (£2.9 million), although he subsequently went on to have six other kids. It's not clear if the language of the paperwork indicates any provisions for his future offspring.
