AceShowbiz - "Riverdale" is poised to do musical episode once again. The CW announced on Thursday, January 17, that the series would tackle "Heathers" in the upcoming musical episode centering on "Heathers: The Musical". It's a 2010 stage adaptation of iconic 1989 movie starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater as murderous high school students.
"Last year, we had a blast doing 'Carrie'. This year, we wanted to honor another iconic teen movie," executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said. " 'Heathers: The Musical' is BIG FUN, with great roles for the 'Riverdale' kids."
Further detailing the upcoming episode, which is slated to air on March 20, Aguirre-Sacasa added, "And everyone is singing..." With that, fans may expect to see Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) belting out a tune.
The CW has also revealed the cast for the musical. Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) will take on the role of Veronica Sawyer, a character made famous by Ryder in the original flick. Meanwhile, Sweet Pea (Jordan Connor) is playing her boyfriend Jason "J.D." Dean.
Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch), Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) will play Heather Chandler, Heather McNamara and Heather Duke respectively. Reggie Mantle (Charler Melton) and Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) are also among the cast, portraying Ram Sweeney and Kurt Kelly respectively. The fact that Archie is included in the cast seemingly is enough to make fans be able to breathe a sigh of relief following the shocking ending of January 16 episode, which might hint at his death.
Cheryl will suggest the idea to do the musical to director Kevin (Casey Cott) in March 13 episode while she plays some croquet.
The latest episode baffled fans as it featured Archie struggling alone after he was being attacked by a grizzly bear early in the episode.. By the end of the episode, he was found unresponsive and bloody in his cabin in the Canadian wilderness. That scene unsurprisingly sent fans into frenzy as he might be dead.
Meanwhile, a new couple rose with Veronica and Reggie sharing a steamy kiss. In the episode titled "Chapter Forty-Four: No Exit", she performed a seductive rendition of "Maybe This Time" by Cabaret. It was so mesmerizing that Reggie couldn't stop staring at her in full admiration.
"Riverdale" season 3 airs on Wednesdays at 8 P.M. on The CW.
