After being called out publicly by the 'Will and Grace' star, a spokesperson for the network issues a statement announcing the decision to pull the plug on the controversial commercial.

AceShowbiz - Debra Messing has slammed bosses at the network behind her hit comedy show "Will & Grace" for airing a racist political ad.

The controversial commercial, which aired on NBC in America on Sunday night, November 04, referred to the migrant caravan currently moving through Central America towards the U.S. ahead of Tuesday's (November 06) midterm elections.

Some networks, like CNN, refused to air the ad, with executives stating, "When presented with an opportunity to be paid to take a version of this ad, we declined."

But NBC bosses ran it - and Messing is not happy.

On Monday morning, November 05, the politically-active actress tweeted, "To our @willandgrace fans - I want you to know that I am ashamed that my network aired this disgusting racist ad. It is the antithesis of everything I personally believe in, and what, I believe, our show is all about."

Network officials at NBC and Fox News have since pulled the controversial commercial.

"After further review, we recognise the insensitive nature of the ad and have decided to cease airing it across our properties as soon as possible," NBC spokesman Joe Benarroch shared in a statement.
