'No matter when it was going to end, my heart would have always been broken in two,' the actress writes on Instagram.

AceShowbiz - Actress Kaley Cuoco was left heartbroken when she learned the next season of "The Big Bang Theory" would be the show's last.

Creator and executive producer Chuck Lorre confirmed the sad news in a statement released on Wednesday, August 22, and now his leading lady has broken her silence about the programme's last hurrah.

"This ride has been a dream come true and as life changing as it gets," she wrote in a post on Instagram. "No matter when it was going to end, my heart would have always been broken in two."

Cuoco also posted a photo of herself and her castmates, adding: "Drowning in tears, we promise to bring you the best season yet.

"To the fans, our crew, families, Chuck Lorre, Warner Brothers, CBS, and everyone who has supported us for so many years, thank you. We are goin out with a bang."

The actress has played Penny on the show since it premiered in 2007.

The final episode will air in May, 2019.

Her castmates have yet to comment on the news, although Melissa Rauch celebrated the first taping of season 12 with the cast on Tuesday, August 21, posting a snap of the reunion.

Lorre's statement reads: "We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past 12 seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show's success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring 'The Big Bang Theory' to an epic creative close."

The final season of "The Big Bang Theory" premieres on September 24.
