The news arrives after the network decided to pull the plug on the time travel series after two seasons back in June.

AceShowbiz - "Timeless" fans may have something to celebrate. NBC has announced that it will treat the fans to a two-hour movie that will serve as the show's series finale with all seven regular cast members returning.

"We're excited to tell one final chapter to this incredible story," said Lisa Katz, co-president of scripted programming at NBC Entertainment. "A huge thank you to all-- our cast, crew, producers and partners at Sony-- who have worked so very hard, and to the fans who kept us on our toes and made sure we did our very best week after week."

The news arrives after the network decided to pull the plug on the time travel series after two seasons back in June. Fans later rallied on in order to save the series to no avail, but now, all the hard work has been paid off.

Following the news, stars of "Timeless" as well as the series co-creator Eric Kipke have taken to social media to share their excitement. "I know you wanted more seasons. But this 2 hour finale will let us end the story right & #SaveRufus. EVERY convo I had with @Sony & @nbc was about the fans. Giving them the ending they deserve. Cause they spoke so loudly. Thank you," Kipke writes.

Abigail Spencer, who portrays Lucy Preston, shares a video of her dancing and singing. She seems to be so excited as she accidentaly spills her coffee while moving her body. "So excited! Jokes & come spilling out of me. Love you #Timeless fans! Thanks to you & everyone at @Sony & @NBC for making this happen! #timeteam #clockblockers #SaveTimeless," she captions the video.

Equally excited is Sakina Jeffrey. In a video she uploads on her Twitter account, the Denise Christopher depicter is dancing while chanting, "We're saving Rufus! We're saving Rufus!" She later thanks "Cockblockers" fans for making it happen. "Your mission is complete, #Clockblockers rule!#Timeless will be back for a two-part series finale on NBC. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We're gonna #SaveRufus!" she says in the caption.

"Timeless" writers, meanwhile, add, "We know that many of you wanted a 3rd (and 4th and 5th) Season of the show rather than a 2 hour finale, but when it became clear that that wasn't going to be possible, this was our last and best hope to #Save Rufus. We're very grateful to @NBC and @SPTV for making this happen."

For those who're wondering, all these "#SaveRufus" hashtags are a nod to the cliffhanger finale of the sophomore season. The episode saw the future versions of Lucy and Wyatt (Matt Lanter), two of the time travelers, appearing in a future version of their time machine, the Lifeboat. The two left a question for everyone as they asked whether they could get Rufus (Malcolm Barrett), who apparently died, back.

Also starring Goran Visnjic, Paterson Joseph and Claudia Doumit, the two-part series finale will premiere during the holidays.
