When asked about his reason to go to rehab, the musician notes that it was because he feared he become another rocker to die young due to drugs.

AceShowbiz - The 1975 frontman Matt Healy headed to rehab to beat a "full on" drug addiction before starting work on the band's new album.

The rocker, who is the son of British actors Tim Healy and Denise Welch, has been open about his drug use in the past, and says he developed a dependence on opioids while touring.

Fearing he might become another rocker to die young due to drugs, he travelled to Barbados to undergo treatment for an addiction he describes as "full on".

"When I went away to Barbados, I actually went to rehab," Matt tells DIY Magazine. "I went and worked with horses for seven weeks. I didn't get dragged away to rehab, I was f**king exhausted and at the (risk) of being another statistic in that prescription drug opioid crisis that hit America, because that's the way I dealt with things on tour."

Explaining how he began using drugs to cope with boredom, he adds, "I loved going out on stage and talking to 12,000 people. I didn't like going back to my hotel room and sitting on my own for another three hours and then being expected to go to bed when I wanted to, I don't know, change culture or something ridiculously grandiose."

Another reason the musician decided to get clean was to record new material - as he didn't want to make an album under the influence of drugs.

"I knew that I wasn't going to detox myself, so I went away and I got clean," the 29-year-old explains. "I wasn't going there to get straight edge, I didn't have a drinking problem or anything else, I was just chemically dependent on a substance and I didn't wanna make a record as a f**king junkie. Who wants to hear that?"

The 1975's third album is due out in October, but despite Matt mentioning his drug problems on their new single, "Give Yourself A Try", he has promised fans their new music won't dwell on his demons - as he didn't want to make a "'poor me' record".
