Sony has moved the release of its live-action 'Barbie' movie nearly two years from the summer of this year to May 2020.

AceShowbiz - Fans will have to wait a lot longer than expected to see Anne Hathaway in Sony's upcoming live-action "Barbie" movie. The studio has announced that the film has been delayed for nearly two years, from August 8 this year to May 8, 2020.
Hathaway stepped in after Amy Schumer left the project last March, citing scheduling conflicts. The 36-year-old actress/comedienne's sister Kim Caramele is credited along with Diablo Cody and others as the screenwriters.
Alethea Jones, who made her feature film directorial debut with last year's "Fun Mom Dinner", will direct the movie. According to Deadline, the script for the movie is still being worked on "and that those behind the pic want to get this popular Mattel toy franchise right."
Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Amy Pascal are producing the film, which has been developed in the vein of "Splash", "Enchanted" and "Big" with the main character getting kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and winding up in a real-world adventure. Parkes and MacDonald initiated the original deal with Sony and Mattel in 2014.
This is the second time Sony has changed the release date for "Barbie". The studio had originally dated the movie for June 29, 2018, then moved it back six weeks. "Barbie" is the first title to be dated on May 8, 2020. There is an untitled Marvel film opening the week before that.
Sony has also dated its "Superfly" reboot, which stars Jason Mitchell, Andrea Londo and Trevor Jackson, for June 15. It will open against Disney-Pixar's "Incredibles 2", Warner Bros-New Line's comedy "Tag", Lionsgate's British drama "On Chesil Beach" and an untitled Universal film.
Sony's schedule has also dated a new untitled Phil Lord and Chris Miller-produced animated feature for February 7, 2020. "The Girl in the Spider's Web" has been moved from its October release date to November 9, while "Slender Man" has been pushed from its original May release date to August 24. As for the Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly-starring comedy "Holmes & Watson", it is now set to open closer to Christmas on December 21.
