The music genius will collaborate with playwright Paul Rudnick to bring 'The Devil Wears Prada' all the way to Broadway.

AceShowbiz - "The Devil Wears Prada", starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, is going to Broadway. Music genius Elton John and playwright Paul Rudnick have signed on to write the musical adaption of the movie.

"To bring 'The Devil Wears Prada' to the stage, we knew we needed to find artists as inimitable as the characters in the story," Bob Cohen of Fox Stage Productions and the musical producer Kevin McCollum said a joint statement. "We needed artists whose work has run the gamut from music and publishing to drama and fashion. We could think of only two names: Elton John and Paul Rudnick. That's all!"

John will be in charge of the stage production, alongside lyricist and writer Paul Rudnick. The musical will be produced by McCollum, who has been working for this for about two years. Along with him, Fox Stage Productions and Rocket Entertainment, whose CEO is John's husband, David Furnish, also serve as producers.

The music legend said in a press release, "Re-imagining 'The Devil Wears Prada' for the musical theater is super exciting." John continued, "I'm a huge fan of both the books and the feature film, and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can't wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture."

John has lent his magic hands to "The Lion King" and won a Tony Award in 2000 for the score he wrote for "Aida". Meanwhile, Rudnick has been known as a comedic playwright ("The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told"), screenwriter as well as essayist. His countless credits include Broadway's "I Hate Hamlet", "The New Century", "In & Out" and "Addams Family Values". He also authored novels and wrote for several famous magazines such as The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Vogue.

The musical will adapt the 2003 novel written by Lauren Weisberger and 20th Century Fox's 2016 movie of the same title. The story revolves around an aspiring journalist named Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) who is caught up in Runway magazine, where she learns about fashion industry as the personal assistant to Ms. Priestly (Meryl Streep), the imperious editor of the magazine.

After the news broke out, many Twitter users share their excitement. One user tweeted, "Elton John? For a DEVIL WEARS PRADA musical? Groundbreaking. (But seriously I am screaming)." Along with it, he posted a GIF of Ms. Priestly mouthing her famous "Groundbreaking" line.

Another fan posted a GIF of a "Devil Wears Prada" scene featuring Nigel, played by Stanley Tucci, who runs frantically after he finds out about Ms. Priestly's sudden arrival at the office. The fan wrote in the caption, "Me, hearing the Devil Wears Prada musical news."
