The Academy Award-winning actress reflects on her remarkable 41-year journey in the movie industry and her recent honor, the prestigious American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement Award.

AceShowbiz - On Tuesday, April 23, Nicole Kidman took to Instagram to commemorate her 41st year in the film industry. The 56-year-old actress shared a heartwarming video of her first role at 14 in "Bush Christmas" (1983).

"This 14-year-old girl could never have predicted all the talented people she would work with and the many different characters she would play," Kidman wrote in the caption.

Kidman's breakout role in the United States came just six years later, with her portrayal of Rae Ingram in "Dead Calm" (1989). Since then, she has worked with prestigious directors such as Jane Campion, Sofia Coppola, Baz Luhrmann, Sydney Pollack, Aaron Sorkin and Stanley Kubrick.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to cinema, the American Film Institute (AFI) bestowed upon Kidman its Life Achievement Award on April 27. The "Being the Ricardos" actress is the first Australian to receive this prestigious honor.

"Nicole Kidman has captured the imaginations of audiences throughout her prolific career, delivering complex and versatile performances onscreen," stated the AFI press release.

Kidman has earned numerous accolades over the years, including five Academy Award nominations and an Oscar win for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in Stephen Daldry's "The Hours" (2003). She has also won a BAFTA Award, two Emmys, and six Golden Globes.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Kidman expressed her gratitude for the audience's support throughout her decades-long journey. "I started working at 14, so I've grown up on camera and in front of people," she said. "That's been my life: my children, my husband, and my work."

Reflecting on her journey, Kidman shared, "I would have told my younger self, 'Be kind to yourself.' I'm my toughest critic."

The AFI Life Achievement Award Tribute took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and will air on TNT and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) at a later date.
