Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy hints that the next 'Star Wars' movies will likely all be stand-alone projects after the latest trilogy ends with 'Episode IX'.

AceShowbiz - Apparently, there won't be another trilogy planned after "Star Wars Episode IX". During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy hints that the next "Star Wars" movies will likely all be stand-alone projects, just like Marvel Studios does with the MCU movies.

When asked if there will be a new trilogy being developed, Kennedy responds, "That's a conversation going on right now, too." She goes on to say, "I have to honestly tell you, could we [do nothing but stand-alones]? Sure. But I don't know. We are looking at all of that."

Kennedy also talks about the idea of exploring the universe more specific with stand-alone movies, with "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" being the first "Star Wars" spin-off movie. She reveals that it was George Lucas who originally came up with the notion of "anthology" films.

"[George] had often thought about doing it and he had actually written down three or four thoughts and ideas, directions you could go," she reveals. "We talked a lot about the Jedi and the foundational ideas that George had thought about when he created the mythology. It was sort of spit-balling ideas."

Speaking about the major changes of "Rogue One", she reveals that it will be the first movie without the iconic opening crawl. "More than likely we will not have a crawl," she says. "We feel that that is proprietary with the saga films. But how this evolves...? We haven't fully decided, and [traditional 'Star Wars' elements] may be pretty spare for this first one."

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is coming to U.S. theaters on December 17. Meanwhile, "Star Wars Episode IX will arrive later on May 24, 2019 after "Star Wars Episode VIII" opens on December 15, 2017.
