Pettyfer says his co-star Channing Tatum didn't like him, admitting he got a bad rep on set of the first film and it was his own fault.

AceShowbiz - Are you wondering why Alex Pettyfer didn't return for "Magic Mike XXL"? The 25-year-old actor has just revealed the reasons why he didn't appear in the follow-up to "Magic Mike" as he said that his co-star Channing Tatum didn't like him.

In an interview with Bret Easton Ellis, Pettyfer was asked whether he didn't get along very well with Tatum. "It's true," he said. Pettyfer continued saying that he's the one to blame for the feud. "Because Channing Tatum does not like me - and for many reasons [and] many being my own fault," he added.

Pettyfer explained that he got a bad rep on set of the first film because of his own insecurities and some people might have understood it in a wrong way. "I was scared to speak," he said. "I actually did my work and I sat in the corner and listened to music because I had been told anything I did was wrong by my reps."

"I was very insecure as a human being. That also gave me a bad rep because everyone was like, 'Alex doesn't speak because he thinks he's better than everyone else,' " he added. The "Endless Love" actor said that what people thought about him wasn't true at all. "That's not true. I was just generally nervous and scared to be myself. I was in character," he explained.

What made the relationship between the two hunky actors got worse was when Pettyfer didn't pay rent to Tatum's friend, who owned the apartment Pettyfer stayed in at the time. He stayed in the apartment with his then-fiancee Riley Keough, but he had to move out because he had an allergic reaction to mold and dust. Pettyfer said that he forgot to pay the rent because his cousin suddenly passed away and he "was dealing with family trauma."

"I all of a sudden got a very negative email from Channing - rightfully so," Pettyfer said. "I really took that the wrong way, which I shouldn't have... By the end of it, I just basically said, 'f**k them. What is money when life is so much more?' and 'I'm not dealing with this, and I'm not paying.' "

However, there is always something that can be learnt from mistakes. Pettyfer admitted that he shouldn't have taken that clumsy decision. "Channing was actually an incredible influence on me because after this whole situation happened - this was kind of the end of my immaturity and all my experiences put into one," he concluded. "It was an incredible experience making 'Magic Mike'. I wouldn't replace it for anything."
