The 'Hannibal' star is in early talks to play one of the villains in the movie which follows a former neurosurgeon who discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

AceShowbiz - Mads Mikkelsen is in early talks to star in Marvel's "Doctor Strange". According Variety, Mikkelsen will play one of the villains in the movie, joining Benedict Cumberbatch.

Cumberbatch will play Stephen Vincent Strange, a former neurosurgeon who becomes the next Sorcerer Supreme and is up to protect the world from magical and mystical threats.

Mikkelsen's character won't be the only villain in the film. It was revealed previously that Chiwetel Ejiofor would play the titular doctor's arch enemy, Baron Mordo. Also attached to star in "Doctor Strange" is Tilda Swinton, who will play the Ancient One. In the comic books, Mordo also studies magic under the Ancient One before becoming Doctor Strange's nemesis.

This is not the first time that Marvel eyed Mikkelsen to play a comic book villain. Back in 2012, Mikkelsen was up for the role of Malekith in "Thor: The Dark World". Unfortunately, he was out of contention and the role ended up being played by "Doctor Who" star Christopher Eccleston.

"Doctor Strange" will follow the story of the good doctor, who after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. Scott Derrickson directs the comic book movie with Jon Spaihts penning the script. Kevin Feige produces the flick which will open in U.S. theaters on November 4, 2016.
