Kravitz reveals that she had an eating disorder which she overcame two years ago in an interview with Complex.

AceShowbiz - Zoe Kravitz opened up about the struggle with eating disorder she had when she was a high school student. In an interview with Complex, she admitted that she's free from her anorexia and bulimia only two years ago.
The 26-year-old actress and supermodel told the magazine, "I had a really hard time when I was 16, 17, 18. I started with the eating disorder in high school... Just [a hard time] loving myself." She believed the disease was a part of her life as a woman, "I think it was part of being a woman, and being surrounded by [fame]."
But then, she backtracked, "I don't think it was about the fame, but I think it was definitely about being around that world, seeing that world. I felt pressured."
Her illness reached the most dangerous level when her weight dropped to only 90 pounds as she was starring as an anorexic twenty-something Marie in "The Road Within" in 2013. "My parents got really scared for me to go back down that road. It was f**ked up, man. You could see my rib cage. I was just trying to lose more weight for the film but I couldn't see 'You're there. Stop. It was scary.' "
After the film she admitted to being very ill that she did not get her period regularly. Her immune system dropped and her thyroid was thrown off. It was only on New Year's Eve 2013 that she decided to give up her bad eating habit.
Her feeling of insecurity which seemingly led into the eating disorder was a combination of systematic ideas about beauty and her upbringing. She believed that women were not allowed to think that they are beautiful. "It's either: you're conceited, or insecure, as opposed to just loving yourself," she said.
It was also because she was surrounded by beautiful people including her mother and women her father dated. "My mother's a...beautiful woman, and I think, in some way, I felt intimidated by that sometimes." She added while laughing, "My dad dated a lot of supermodels."
