Artist of the Week: Blake Shelton

The country superstar brings back the traditional sound of country music on new album 'Bringing Back the Sunshine' which tops this week's Billboard 200.

AceShowbiz - Blake Shelton returned to Billboard 200's No. 1 with his newest album, "Bringing Back the Sunshine". Marking the country superstar's second LP to have topped the esteemed chart, it also landed at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart.

"Sunshine" finds Shelton bringing back the more traditional sound of country music. According to the star, the album sounds grittier than his last two efforts, 2011's "Red River Blue" and last year's "Based on a True Story...".

Shelton explained how the new record is different from its two predecessors in an interview with Access Hollywood. "I tried to make albums that are kind of a reflection of where I'm at in my life right now, and those last two records I made - the first one was just before [Miranda Lambert] and I got married and then the last one was just after we got married so we were kind of in [a happy time]," he said.

"And now it's like, we've been married for three years, I've gotta sing some damn drinking songs again, you know what I mean? It's like, honeymoon's over, so... I just wanted to make a country - stereotypical country - record. And I love that. It's one of my favorite things about country music. Everybody says, 'Aww man! It's just crying in your beer.' Yeah, you're damn right it is. That's why I do it," he continued.

"Sunshine" has so far spawned a single, "Neon Light". Reaching No. 4 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs, the song has the traditional country music Shelton has been talking about.

"The song, the melody, the chorus is so George Jones or George Strait," he told Rolling Stone following the arrival of the track back in August. "I'm always to have the haters and critics out there that say it's not. But then kiss my a**! I know more about those records than a lot of people."
