Weinstein Co. Goes
Movie

The Weinstein Company has picked up film and TV rights to Tom Folsom's as-yet-unwritten book "The Mad Ones."

AceShowbiz - Conducting one of its first attempts at book-film synergy, The Weinstein Co. is on its track to develop "The Mad Ones" based on an as-yet-unwritten tome from author Tom Folsom of which film and TV rights it has successfully optioned.

The book, slated for a 2009 release, is said to tell about the notorious Gallo brothers, who, in the 1960s, attempted a revolt against the Profaci crime family of which they were a part. Weinstein Co. has described the project, which also examines the downtown counterculture in which the brothers dabbled, to be a "collision of a classic crime story and pop culture portrait of the turbulent '60s."

While Weinstein had previously secured rights to make "Alex and the Ironic Gentleman" from the upcoming children's book by Adrienne Kress, "Mad" will mark the company's venture into an adult-oriented book-film production instead. Names to board the flick as the director, screenwriter, and stars have not yet been revealed, so stay tuned to this site for further info about it.
