Rae Sremmurd Biography

Rae Sremmurd is a rap duo from Tupelo, Mississippi but is now based in Atlanta. They're made up of young and exuberant rappers Swae Lee, who was born on June 7, 1993, and Slim Jimmy, who was born on December 29, 1991.

Prior to breaking into the rap industry as Rae Sremmurd, Lee and Jimmy were in a trio called Dem Outta State Boyz which used to upload videos to social media like YouTube and songs to Reverbnation, looking for recognition. They were later discovered by P-Nasty who expressed his interest in their music and told them to come to Atlanta. "P-Nasty had called us, he was like yo, drop what ya'll doing we're about to start doing this music real heavy. Drop what ya'll doing and come to Atlanta," they told Vice.

They then moved to Atlanta and started making new music there. They joined forces with Mike WiLL Made It to produce their first two songs, "I Dip" and "We". The two tracks, however, didn't receive too many attention.

Rae Sremmurd, Ear Drummer (their record label) spelled backwards, then shot to stardom in early 2014, following the release of their single "No Flex Zone". The track peaked at No. 35 on Billboard Hot 100 and spawned numerous remixes including by Nicki Minaj and Kid Ink. They did better on the chart with "No Type", which rose to No. 16.

The two songs are set to be featured on Rae Sremmurd's upcoming debut album, "SremmLife". The record is scheduled to hit the stores on January 6, 2015 through EarDrummers Entertainment and Interscope Records. In addition to the two hits, the LP will include "Throw Sum Mo" that features guest appearances from Minaj and Young Thug, "Y no" with Big Sean and "Unlock the Swag" with Jace of Two-9.

In June 2016, Rae Sremmurd announced their next album "SremmLife 2" which eventually reached No. 5 on Billboard 200 upon its release in August. The LP was supported by the hit single "Black Beatles" featuring Gucci Mane. Produced by Mike WiLL Made It, the song became the rap group and Mane's biggest hit to date. It landed at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 in November, giving the two acts their first No. 1 single.
