In an interview published on Wednesday, March 27, the 31-year-old Grammy-winning hip-hop artist shared her experience in finding designer clothing pieces along with her fashion stylist Kollin Carter. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said, "There are so many obstacles against us."
Cardi went on to admit that her jaw-dropping figure caused one of the challenges. She explained, "For example, this body is not meant for a size 2. I'm very hips, a**, and that's me." She then stated, "It was not easy, but we make it look easy."
The "Enough (Miami)" spitter further revealed, "Our door was closed many times, but we're here because we do it well." Seemingly proud of the results that came after her and her stylish team's hard work, she noted, "I'm not going to be humble about it."
Kollin joined in, "We've given look after look, year after year, we've reached into archives that are impossible to reach into. We caused a cultural shift. I don't think there were many women like Cardi who existed in the fashion space. Now there are a ton of other rap females who aspire to be in that space because they see what's possible. We set trends."
During the chat, Kollin talked about Cardi's get-up when she made an appearance at the 2023 Met Ball in New York City, which was held to honor Karl Lagerfeld. For the event, she became a showstopper in a black leather ball gown, which came with quilted materials in the shape of 600 oversized camellia blooms. The dress was designed by young Chinese designer Chenpeng.
About the stunning look, Kollin told the media outlet, "Karl Lagerfeld was such a force, so I wanted to pay tribute to him but also incorporate elements of Chanel, one of Cardi's favorite houses."
