When the Big Apple is covered in ice after an evil force is unleashed, the new and old Ghostbusters must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

AceShowbiz - The legendary Ghostbusters are back in the first trailer for "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire". A courtesy of Sony Pictures Entertainment, the video made its way out on Monday, January 29 featuring the original and new cast of the franchise.

The video opens by reintroducing the new stars of the "Ghostbusters" franchise, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon and Mckenna Grace. The team is threatened to be disbanded due to some safety issues involving the youngest member of the team.

In the meantime, an evil force is unleashed in New York after the discovery of an ancient artifact. "The better question is what's inside of it?" Patton Oswalt's new character Dr. Hubert Wartzki tells Phoebe Spengler (Grace).

"The Parables tell of an unimaginable evil commanding an army of ghosts," Dan Aykroyd's Dr. Raymond "Ray" Stantz explains in another scene. "That's the power to kill by fear itself."

"We might be looking at our second Ice Age," Dr. Ray further predicts as ice spears suddenly surface from the ground everywhere. As Ernie Hudson's Dr. Winston Zeddemore calls for action to be taken, Bill Murray's Dr. Peter Venkman returns to offer some help.

Annie Potts also reprises her role as Janine Melnitz, prompting Venkman to exclaim, "Melnitz in uniform - yeah!" As if that's not enough nostalgia, the legendary ghost Slimer slithers his way into the final moments of the video.

According to the official synopsis, "in 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire', the Spengler family returns to where it all started - the iconic New York City firehouse - to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who've developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age."

Gil Kenan directs the film with the script he co-wrote with Jason Reitman. Kumail Nanjiani, Celeste O'Connor and Logan Kim also star in the upcoming supernatural comedy flick, which will head into theaters across the nation on March 22.
