AceShowbiz - Lionel Richie allegedly went emotional upon learning that Sofia Richie is pregnant. It was reported that the "Say You, Say Me" hitmaker "couldn't hold back tears" when his model daughter let him know that she and her husband Elliot Grainge are expecting their first child together.
The 74-year-old singer's reaction when he learned about the 25-year-old social media personality's pregnancy news was spilled by a source on Friday, January 26. Speaking to Us Weekly, the source revealed, "Lionel is absolutely thrilled for Sofia and Elliot. He was ecstatic when they told him and the family that they were expecting their first child."
The insider went on to say, "Sofia is Lionel's youngest, and it was such a bittersweet moment for him, because he realizes his baby girl is all grown up and going to become a mom. He couldn't hold back the tears. It was such a joyous moment for him."
"Lionel and Lucian have been close for years, so they're definitely celebrating this incredible time together," the insider continued, making a reference to Elliot's father Lucian Grainge. "Lionel's heart is so full with love for the both of them, and he knows they're going to make amazing parents."
The revelation came one day after Sofia broke the pregnancy news to the world. On Thursday January 25, she debuted her growing baby bump via Instagram by uploading a black-and-white photo from her maternity shoots. In the snap, she exposed her stomach as she stood next to Elliot. Along with the picture, she penned, "And then there were three."
That same day, Sofia's interview with Vogue about her pregnancy was published. In it, she recalled how she shared the exciting news with her and Elliot's parents, including her dad Lionel. "We went to Elliot's parents, who live about five minutes away from us, and I think I had a box, I want to say it was a Hermes box or some sort of box, and I told everyone that I had bought them a gift from Milan Fashion Week," she recounted.
"Everyone was like, 'Ooooh Hermes!' But then they opened it and it had all three of the pregnancy tests [in it]. That's how we told all of our parents," she explained. About their reactions, she detailed, "Watching their reaction go from like, 'I'm about to get an expensive present,' to like, 'I'm about to get a grandchild' was really sweet."
