Jon Stewart Tapped as 'The Daily Show' Temporary Host

The comedian/writer acted as the host of 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart' from 1999 to 2015 and then went on to host The Problem with Jon Stewart on Apple TV+, but things reportedly took a sour turn there.

AceShowbiz - Jon Stewart is making his way back to "The Daily Show". The comedian and writer has been tapped as the temporary host of the Comedy Central news program following Trevor Noah's departure.

The 61-year-old made the announcement via X, formerly Twitter on Wednesday, January 24. "Friends. After much reflection I have decided to enter the transfer portal for my last year of eligibility. Excited for the future! 5'7" ish 165 14.8 second 40 #Blessed #NILBABY #TDSnation #LFGM," he penned.

Jon will only act as host on Monday evenings through the 2024 election. Tuesdays through Thursdays, meanwhile, will be hosted by other "The Daily Show" correspondents.

Of the comedian's return, Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement, "Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation." He added, "And we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central's 'The Daily Show' to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season."

"In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics," Chris added. "Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit."

Jon is also expected to executive produce from 2024-2025 to help mold the show for the future.

Fellow comedian John Oliver, admitted that he was surprised by the news. He said in an interview with "Today", "I mean, that's, that is a surprise... That's a show that needs a host."

"He certainly is a very, very good one. So yeah, it'll be exciting to see what he does," the "Last Week Tonight" host continued, before saying, "Jordan's back." He was referring to Michael Jordan's return to the Chicago Bulls after his supposed retirement.
