Netflix has unveiled the first photo from the fifth and final season of the hit sci-fi series in addition to announcing that the production has officially begun.

AceShowbiz - Fans' last visit to the Upside Down is coming soon. On Monday, January 8, Netflix unveiled the first photo from the fifth and final season of "Stranger Things" in addition to announcing that the production had officially begun.

Via its official account on Instagram, the streaming giant shared the black-and-white photo of the cast posing together with the show creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer. Among those who were featured in the snap were Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, Charlie Heaton, Brett Gelman and Maya Hawke.

The picture also showed new cast member Linda Hamilton. The "Terminator" star was announced to have joined season 5 cast of the hit sci-fi series back in June 2023, though details about her character are unknown.

"THIS IS A CODE RED," the caption read. "STRANGER THINGS 5 production has officially begun!!!"

Season 5 of "Stranger Things" was initially planned to start its production in May 2023. However, it was forced to get pushed back due to the Writers Guild of America and the SAG-AFTRA strikes. While plot of the long-awaited season is still under the wraps, Netflix revealed that the first episode will be called "Chapter One: The Crawl".

Back in September 2022, executive producer Shawn Levy promised the final season will be worth the wait. "Our ambitions remain pretty high," he told E! News at the time, "and the way the audience has grown along with the cinematic scope of the show, I don't expect that we're going to mess with that approach going into season five. We are hard at work to stick the landing."

The EP added that there won't be a cliffhanger as the final installment "will answer all remaining questions." He further noted, "We are in the business of satisfying viewers."
