The former football quarterback first announced his retirement from the NFL back in February 2022, but he changed his mind the following month by saying that he would be unretiring.

AceShowbiz - Tom Brady was close to returning to the field in mid-2023. When sharing a reflective post on New Year's Eve, the ex-NFL star revealed that he "was about to unretire" from football in May, but there was something that prevented him from doing so.

Making use of Instagram on Sunday, December 31, the 46-year-old shared several pictures of him with his loved ones at various events. He kicked off his caption by writing, "Looking back on 2023 grateful for every moment. Cherishing the highs, learning from the lows, and looking forward to what's coming next. I'm blessed to have family and friends filled with so much love, joy, and compassion surrounding me."

"As you get older, you realize that this is really the only thing that matters, and I'll never take these people for granted," the former football quarterback continued. "Hug your kids, call your parents, tell your friends that you love them, and let's all help make 2024 a kinder and happier year for everyone in our lives."

Tom Brady went on to note, "(PS: The only downside to 2023 was when I was about to unretire in May and my friends threw a surprise retirement party." He said the surprise bash "kind of forced my hand."

Tom first announced his retirement from the NFL back in February 2022. He, however, changed his mind the following month by saying that he would be unretiring. He later played his last NFL season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before officially retiring in February 2023.

"I'm retiring. For good. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning I figured I'd just press record, and let you guys know first," the athlete shared in an emotional video. "It won't be long-winded, you only get one super-emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year, so. I ... really thank you guys ... so much."

"To every single one of you, for supporting me, my family, my friends, teammates, my competitors. I could go on forever. There's too many," the ex-husband of Gisele Bundchen further elaborated. "Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn't change a thing. Love you all."
