Calling the reports that romantically linked the 72-year-old actor to the 43-year-old singer 'silly,' a friend of the 'Milkshake' songstress claims the two stars have 'a project together.'

AceShowbiz - Bill Murray and Kelis are probably not that close after all. As the actor and the singer have been rumored to be an item, a friend of the musical artist has spoken up to debunk the dating speculation.

The friend, who is described as a person extremely close to the 43-year-old musician, claimed that Kelis and the "Ghostbusters" star are just "friends" who are working on "a project together." Calling the dating rumors "silly," the friend told Media Take Out, "They are working on a project together, and are friends. That's it. I have no idea where the rumors are coming from."

The dating speculation first surfaced after The Sun reported earlier this month that the two have been "getting close for a while." The site claimed the 72-year-old actor watched the singer perform at the Mighty Hoopla festival in London last weekend. He was also spotted at Kelis' other recent shows.

Sources close to the alleged couple told the publication that they were also seen together at the same hotel and have been "getting close for a while" after first meeting in the U.S. A friend additionally shared, "They've met up in the States before which got people in the industry talking, and now are meeting up in London while they're both here. They've clearly hit it off."

"They were both seen at the same hotel, and he's been to watch her perform several times before he went to Mighty Hoopla," the friend further elaborated. "But they've also both shared relatively recent bereavements and have that common bond between them... Whatever it is that has brought them together, and however unlikely it seems, they are both single and are having fun despite the fairly big age gap."

After saying that she "wouldn't bother" to address the dating speculation, Kelis appeared to mock those believing the online reports. When responding to a fan who wrote, "bill got u out here riding his wave," the Grammy nominee penned, "Lol yeah maybe for now. everyones dumb and will believe everything but the best part is we are both blessed, rich and happy. So who's really laughing [...] now that's funny."
