The FX comedy picks up two awards, while the Barry Jenkins-directed pic, the spy drama series, 'Arrival' and 'The People vs. O.J. Simpson' land a nod each.

AceShowbiz - As it's getting closer to the Academy Awards, the Writers Guild of America handed out the awards for the best in writing at its annual ceremony on Sunday, February 19. The winners were announced simultaneously at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills and New York City's Edison Ballroom, with Patton Oswalt and Lewis Black as the hosts.

Following its big win at the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards in January, "Atlanta" took home two prizes at the WGA Awards in New Series and Comedy Series categories. Other triumphant TV shows were "The Americans", "The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story", "BoJack Horseman", "This Is Us", "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" and "Saturday Night Live".

Not surprisingly, "Moonlight" also continued its winning streak by taking home Original Screenplay gong for screenwriter Barry Jenkins. "Arrival", written by Eric Heisserer based on Ted Chiang's "Story of Your Life", won the Adapted Screenplay prize.

L.A. host Patton Oswalt got political when hosting the show as he said, "People here tonight are angry about two things - that 'Deadpool' is nominated for Best Screenplay and that Trump is President. Donald Trump, I want to be very careful about making jokes about. I don't want to be kicked to death tonight by James Woods."

He continued, "I feel bad for Trump. Here's what happened: They had the [White House] Correspondents' Dinner, Obama went up and made fun of Donald, and Donald said, 'I'm taking his job.' Now he's sitting there saying: 'This job sucks! My life before this was amazing!' ... Donald Trump taking Obama's job would be like if the head of linguistics at Rutgers made fun of David Lee Roth ... and he said, 'I'm the head of linguistics at Rutgers. Bring on the hookers and cocaine!' "
