Christopher McQuarrie Confirms He's Directing 'Mission: Impossible 6'

The 'Rogue Nation' director took to Twitter to announce that he would direct the sixth installment of 'Mission:Impossible' movie series.

AceShowbiz - Christopher McQuarrie officially returns for the next installment of "Mission: Impossible" movie series. The director, who helmed "Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation", took to Twitter to announce that he would direct "Mission: Impossible 6".

"Mission: Accepted #MI6," McQuarrie wrote on Twitter. He will direct the film and also write the screenplay. His decision to tackle the project makes McQuarrie the first director who returns for a second movie in the franchise's history.

McQuarrie will also produce alongside J.J. Abrams, David Ellison (Skydance), Dana Goldberg and Tom Cruise, who will reprise his role as agent Ethan Hunt. Production is expected to commence in August 2016, although there is still a possibility to change the date. "Rogue Nation" cast members like Jeremy Renner,Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Alec Baldwin and Paula Patton are also expected to return for the follow-up movie.

This summer's "Rogue Nation" was successful at the box office, earning $682.3 million globally. It came slightly behind the franchise's biggest money maker, "Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol", which grossed $694.7 million in 2011.
