Report: Robert Downey Jr. Cast in 'Assassin's Creed'
Movie

The 'Iron Man' star is rumored joining Michael Fassbender in the video game adaptation to portray Leonardo da Vinci.

AceShowbiz - Robert Downey Jr. reportedly has joined "Assassin's Creed" cast. According to Moviepilot, the Iron Man depicter in Marvel Cinematic Universe is tapped to play Leonardo da Vinci in the adaptation of Ubisoft's popular video game series.

The famed artist is expected to cross path with the lead character Desmond Miles who is sent back in time to retrieve historical artifacts. As the casting report was picked up by various media outlets on the internet, the article was abruptly taken down but there was no official denial.

The movie has been in development for several years. Justin Kurzel is attached to sit behind the lens, and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" star Michael Fassbender is tapped to take on the lead role. It's planned for August 7, 2015 release.

Downey Jr. will next star in "The Judge" and reprise his Marvel superhero role in "Avengers: Age of Ultron". He recently played down the prospect of a fourth "Iron Man" film.

Coincidentally, in one scene back in the first "Iron Man" movie in 2008, his character Tony Stark was asked by a reporter, "You've been called the Da Vinci of our time. What do you say to that?" The cocky billionaire quipped, "Absolutely ridiculous. I don't paint."
