Hey Rob, How was your weekend? You play in Denver tonight, eh? I traveled to Denver once for a long weekend. That is a hometown that is really dominated by John Elway. He used the be the quarterback for the Denver Broncos I think it was...they are a team that wears orange jerseys. He has like other businesses now that he is retired from being a football player, not sure exactly what ones, but when I visited Denver he had car dealerships. When I stayed in Denver with an old boyfriend from Auburn, this guy Dan Baxter (his dad was one of the founders of QVC, the home shopping network, and he is the person who took me on the only visit I have ever paid to Washington, DC. It just happened to be on Good Friday that year and almost everything was closed but it was still a really cool day.) I dated and even discussed marriage with him while we dated when he was what they call a "Co-Op student," at Auburn, which means he worked one semester at IBM in North Carolina, then returned to school on the opposite semesters. He was living in an apartment that overlooked a golf course when I visited him in Denver. You know he used to work for Oppenheimer funds back then, and after Denver he worked in the Twin Towers in NYC, while living in Hoboken, New Jersey. So 9-11 was the last time I talked to him because when those planes hit the twin towers, while I was feeding my daughter Lindsay who was an infant at that time, one of my first thoughts was whether or not he was still working there. I called the number I had for him from his Hoboken address and fortunately, his roommates were still living there although he had moved out. They gave me his new phone number and I gave him a call, and of course it was one of the worst days in American history, but he said one thing that he really appreciated about that day is that so many people called him to find out where he was, whether he was still working in the twin towers, and to let him know once they found out that he wasn't that they were so glad to know he wasn't and that he was living and working somewhere else and was still alive. I can almost hear his voice and remember how happy I was to talk to his roommates and find out right away that he wasn't living with them and working in the twin towers anymore. Where were you on 9-11? Annette
