Fourth 'Mummy' Movie to Have Its Own Twist
August 05, 2008 10:08:43Before "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" made its way to the theaters last Friday, August 1, it has long been rumored that the filmmakers have thought off of bringing to big screen two more sequels. Though the development of those sequels still depend on the result of "Dragon Emperor", director Rob Cohen apparently has prepared a twist for "The Mummy 4".
Giving out spoiler to those who have not watched the third "Mummy" movie, the 59-year-old filmmaker revealed that he has provided an open door for the fourth installment in the end of "Dragon Emperor". He noted that Brendan Fraser's character Rick O'Connell is now immortal due to the exposure to the pool of eternal life and his brother-in-law, Jonathan, has obtained a powerful artifact.

'Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor' No Match for 'Dark Knight'
August 04, 2008 12:08:25Predicted to be the one summer movie that could end "The Dark Knight"'s reign at the box office, "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" fell short on the materialization of the forecast. Screened in 3,760 theaters across the country, the Rob Cohen-directed movie debuted a spot behind the reigning champion "Batman Begins" sequel.
Despite losing the coveted #1 place on the three-days weekend box office, this Brendan Fraser-starring action fantasy shows its competitive side raking in an impressive $40.5 million, roughly around two millions less than "Dark Knight" which earned $42.7 million on its third weekend. Still, if compared to the last two "Mummy" movies, the new installment can be considered to be less successful, especially both of the first two secured the #1 spot and collected more on their opening debuts, "The Mummy" with $43.4 million and "The Mummy Returns" with $68.1 million.

A Touch of Asia in Hollywood
July 29, 2008 04:07:02Lately Hollywood has inserted an element of Asia in many of its feature films. Be it in the setting of the films or in the growing number of performers appearing in the movies, Hollywood film industry indeed has slowly taken in Asian influence. In the past years, the contribution of Asia to the world's biggest entertainment industry has been greater than ever with movies like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "The Ring" and "Kung Fu Hustle" making their mark.
The year of 2008 poses no difference in that matter. It brings in another surge of Asia, spawning high grossing box office movies from "The Forbidden Kingdom" to "Kung Fu Panda". With the coming out of another Asian-influenced film "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" this Friday, August 1, it would be interesting to discuss about the possible causes of the 'Asianization' of Hollywood seen from the escalating interest in Asian pop culture, the budding Asian actors in Hollywood and the growth of the Asian movie industry itself.

China Ban on 'Mummy 3' Lifted
July 16, 2008 04:07:38Apparently, the earlier story about the possible problem faced by "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" in China isn't 100% true. Putting an end to the speculation, Universal Pictures overseas as well as director Rob Cohen denied any problem on getting the rights to release the action fantasy movie in China.
Explaining on the condition, Bill Kong, producer and Universal's distributor in Hong Kong and China noted that the film has gotten its release permit stating, "We now have a certificate giving us permission to release the film in China and outside." He further revealed that the changes demanded by China's censors were minor so that it cannot be considered to be a cut. On the stronger tone over the matter, Cohen claimed that the story is not true. As quoted by Shock Till You Drop, he said, "We called Variety to clear this up, but they never took down the story."

More 'Mummy 3' Action Sequences Exposed Through Olympic Promo
July 11, 2008 04:07:30Back in late June, media has been buzzing that NBC Universal are going to compile a video promoting "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" and the 2008 Summer Olympic because the two are taking place in the same location, China. Now, the twisted footage has come out and it provides an awesome effect connecting the two unrelated events.
Displaying several "Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" scenes that have never been unveiled before, the spot combines the action sequences of the Rob Cohen-directed movie with footages from the previous Olympic games. The running terracotta army bursts out to be Olympic runners racing to the finish line, the fist-to-fist fighting sequence between Rick O'Connell and the resurrected Han emperor turns to be a boxing match and a shot where Michelle Yeoh's character back-flip to avoid stabbing changes into a graceful gymnast on a balance beam.

'Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor' Facing Censor Problem in China
July 11, 2008 02:07:29Less than a month away from its worldwide release, the upcoming action horror movie "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" has been hit with an unpleasant news. The Brendan Fraser-starrer movie is said to be on the brink of having to make some changes on its final cut before being theatrically released in China.
Report from Daily Variety noted that China's censors have sent request asking the people behind the movie to do certain changes on the tidbit before they give green light for its theatrical release in the country. Hence, up to date, the Rob Cohen-directed movie has yet to have exact release date for China. Shock Till You Drop further suggested that the possible reason on the problem arises from the fact that China has just released the banning video and audio containing ghosts, monsters and other things related to horror materials.

'The Mummy 3' Villain Badder and Blood Thirstier Than Imhotep
June 17, 2008 02:06:37Usually, most filmmaker chooses to keep mum or give merely hints about the details of their upcoming movie, particularly if the film is a potential blockbuster movie. But, that's not the case with Rob Cohen, the director of "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor". In a recent interview, the filmmaker has been very generous in sharing many things concerning the forthcoming movie, including about the new villain, that may contain possible spoilers.
Talking to Archaeology Magazine, the 59-year-old exposed that the resurrected Han emperor who becomes the newest foe of the O'Connell family in their latest adventure is way meaner than the resurrected Egyptian high priest Imhotep. By stating that, the "XXX" helmer means that the baddie depicted by kung fu action star Jet Li will easily kill everyone standing in between him and his dream of conquering the world.

I was there today to see Brendan Fraser in the park. Not that spectacular. I watched Batman there instead of standing around for the premiere. This movie has awful CGI and an even worse plot. The soldiers aren't even mummies! They're statues! Universal should start making some decent movies again instead of ruining their old movies by making these awful sequels. I saw a screening of this a while ago, I'm not judging. 2/10
