The upcoming reiteration of the Steve Carell-starring comedy will have an entirely new cast with new setting despite being in the same universe as the popular mockumentary series.

AceShowbiz - A new series in the same universe with "The Office" is coming to Peacock. It has been confirmed that Peacock has officially ordered a yet-to-be-titled comedy mockumentary series from Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, who co-created the American version of "The Office".

The upcoming reiteration of the Steve Carell-starring comedy will have an entirely new cast with new setting despite being in the same universe as "The Office". According to the press release, the official logline reads, "The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters."

It was previously reported that Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore had been tapped to lead the cast. While details of their characters are still unknown, production is scheduled to begin in July.

"It's been more than ten years since the final episode of 'The Office' aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock," Lisa Katz, president of scripted content for NBCU Entertainment, said in a statement.

She continued, "In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper."

In addition to creating the new series, Greg and Michael will serve as executive producers along with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who created the original British version of the series. Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas are also on board as executive producers. Universal Television is the studio.

NBC's "The Office" premiered back in 2005, starring Steve, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, B.J. Novak, Jenna Fischer, Mindy Kaling, Leslie David Baker, Melora Hardin, Kate Flannery, Brian Baumgartner, Ed Helms, Oscar Nunez and Craig Robinson. The show concluded in 2013 after running for 9 seasons.
