The singer/actress' 'Wicked' co-star Cynthia Erivo also makes a surprise appearance, joining the 'yes, and?' hitmaker to sing a cover of 'When You Believe'.

AceShowbiz - The 2024 Met Gala became even more magical with a set of performances by Ariana Grande. At this year's event, which theme was "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion", the "yes, and?" hitmaker took the stage at Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute to deliver some of her hits.

Ariana first kicked off the surprise performance on Monday, May 6 by singing "Once Upon a Dream" from Disney's 1959 classic "Sleeping Beauty" in front of the Temple of Dendur set. She was joined by 30 dancers and members of the 40-person choir Broadway Inspirational Voices with Michael Arden, a 2023 Tony winner for Parade, providing direction.

For the performance, Ariana traded her white Loewe dress for an off-white spider-webbed crinoline, worn over a diaphanous organdy smock embroidered with lace and thread with a forest green draped tulle dress underneath. She completed her style with custom hand-painted Tabis by Christian Louboutin for Maison Margiela.

Ariana later belted out five of her own songs, including "Into You", "7 Rings" and "yes, and?". She also performed her newests songs, such as "the boy is mine" and "we can't be friends".

That was not the end of it because Ariana's "Wicked" co-star Cynthia Erivo surprised the audience when she appeared onstage. Cynthia, who wore a square-hip dress in rose houndstooth jacquard from Thom Browne's fall 2013 collection, joined forces with Ariana to sing a cover of "When You Believe", concluding the epic performances.

Fans were blown away after watching clips from Ariana's performances. "Atee the f up," one wrote in an Instagram comment. "Queen," another gushed.

Some others, meanwhile, were surprised by the fact that Met Gala featured performances. "i never knew there was performances at the met i always thought it was just an art exhibition and dinner LMAO," one person said. Echoing the sentiment, someone asked, "since when are there performances."
