The Big Bang Theory is an American comedy television series created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, both of whom serve as executive producers on the show, along with Steven Molaro. The show premiered on CBS on September 24, 2007.
The story revolves around four friends who are physicists and engineers: Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar), and Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg). They live in Pasadena, California, and work at the nearby Caltech. The group is often joined by their neighbor, Penny (Kaley Cuoco), a waitress and aspiring actress.
The show has been praised for its humor, its characters, and its portrayal of science and geek culture. It has been nominated for numerous awards, including 59 Primetime Emmy Awards, of which it has won ten. The show has also been nominated for 16 Golden Globe Awards, of which it has won one.
