The Office Episode 5.03 Baby Shower

Jim points out what's currently going on in the office this morning. Jan is pregnant with a sperm donor's baby. Meanwhile, Dwight and Michael are expecting a watermelon. Dwight is just preparing Michael on what to do when Jan really does give birth, through a little old-fashioned role playing.

Michael is demanding Phyllis and Angela step up the baby shower planning for Jan. This means Phyllis needs to collect more money from co-workers and Angela needs to come up with fun baby games, like "Guess the Baby."

Michael is shocked when Jan rolls into Dunder Mifflin with a newborn baby girl. He can't believe she had the baby without him there. She points out that her birthing coach thought it was for the best. She allows Michael to hold her daughter, as long as she is still in her car seat.

Pam and Jim are experiencing communication issues with her being in New York. Jim either catches Pam at a bad time on the phone or doesn't connect with her stories about classmates he doesn't know. Pam refuses to get frustrated, knowing that the same issues would come up if she were living back in Scranton.

The baby shower starts and Jan is touched by the sentiment. The office gathers around to listen to her serenade Astrid to "Son of a Preacher Man," but they aren't exactly thrilled by it. Meanwhile, Dwight is outside testing out just how indestructible Jan's new stroller really is.

Jan lets Michael watch Astrid while she catches up on her sleep. Michael feels no connection to the baby girl and hands her over to Phyllis while he goes and asks a real baby daddy, Darryl, some questions. Meanwhile, Jan wakes up and is not amused by Holly's lame jokes.

Jan finds Andy and Angela with Astrid in the kitchen as they try to re-create an Anne Geddes photo with a plate of vegetables. Jan is horrified and takes Astrid off the plate and finds Michael. Michael continues to put Holly down in front of Jan, in order to make Jan feel better.

Jan collects all of her things and Michael walks her out of the office. Before Jan leaves, she asks one more favor from Michael, and that is to not date Holly. Michael's confused by the request, but he agrees to it.

Michael walks back in the office and finds Holly. She asks him if he's going to continue being mean to her and he gives her a hug. This brings a smile to Holly's face and she later finds herself getting emotional when Michael asks her out. She agrees to the date.

After work, Jim tries one more time to reach Pam. At the exact same time, she's calling him, which leads to them getting each other's voicemail. They both acknowledge that they are having an off day but make sure to mention that they miss one another before hanging up.
