AceShowbiz - Remy Ma has broken her silence after her son JaySon Scott was arrested for murder. In a new statement, the 44-year-old raptress makes it clear that she's standing by her 23-year-old son's innocence.
"We stand by JaySon's innocence and pray that the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth," the statement to TMZ read. "This is undoubtedly a difficult time for my family and me. While we sincerely appreciate the love and support we have received from all of you, we kindly ask for privacy as our legal team works to prove JaySon's innocence."
It continued, "As his mother, I want to address this situation personally but have been strongly advised by his legal counsel not to say anything -- as most people in similar situations are informed by their attorneys due to it being an active case."
According to NYPD statements, JaySon and Richard Swygert (22) were arrested on Tuesday night, June 18 on first-degree murder charges in connection with a 2021 broad daylight fatal shooting of a man in Queens. Additionally, the two men face additional counts of criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. The severe nature of these charges highlights the seriousness of the offense and the ongoing concern about gun violence in urban areas.
43-year-old Darius Guillebeaux was gunned down on June 7 of that year during what authorities described as a "brazen broad daylight attack" at the intersection of 148th Street and Rockaway Boulevard in Springfield Gardens. The incident left the victim with fatal gunshot wounds to the head and chest in addition to shocking both the local community and the hip-hop world.
Police have yet to reveal the exact motive behind the shooting as it was said that the police are still working to piece together the circumstances that led to the fatal encounter. It's also unclear if JaySon and Richard had any previous connection to the victim.
