AceShowbiz - Ashanti is sharing the joy of being a fiancee. Having gotten engaged to Nelly after their reconciliation, the "Foolish" songstress showed off her engagement ring in a new interview wherein she recalled the "shocking" proposal.
When speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the 43-year-old said her on-again boyfriend proposed while the two were watching TV in bed. The singer, who's currently pregnant with their first child, said she was wearing his T-shirt and boxers.
"It was such a beautiful, intimate moment... I cried, I gave him the biggest hug and kiss ever," she recalled. "I FaceTimed everyone I know... I was overjoyed and shocked and surprised and happy kind of like all in one."
Earlier in the interview, Ashanti said of her engagement to Nelly, "Never in a million years did I think we would be here." She added, "Ten years ago -- maybe yes -- but after our breakup, you know, I didn't even think we'd ever have a conversation again."
"I guess when you go through a breakup, for me personally, I kind of just shut that person out," the expectant mom continued. "It's kinda like, OK, that chapter is closed and you just move on, you know, and there's nothing there."
Ashanti went on to gush about the two being on better terms than ever before. "I think just we both are so passionate about working and about building family," she raved. "We are so, so aligned."
Ashanti and Nelly first dated in the early 2000s. In September 2023, the "Hot In Here" hitmaker confirmed their reconciliation, saying in an interview, "Yeah, we cool again. I think it surprised both of us though. It wasn't anything that I don't think was planned."
