The 'Anyone but You' actor, who worked with Sydney on 'Anyone but You', defends his co-star after producer Carol Baum ripped her apart during a discussion in Pleasantville, N.Y.

AceShowbiz - Sydney Sweeney has found a supporter in Dermot Mulroney. When weighing on Hollywood producer Carol Baum's controversial criticism of his "Anyone but You" co-star, the "Shameless" alum suggested that is so much more than a pretty face.

The 60-year-old praised Sydney when speaking to TMZ on Tuesday, April 23. Laughing off Carol's hate for the "Euphoria" actress, he said being judgy about someone's looks "is not cool."

Dermot, who plays Sydney's father in the 2023 rom-com, then gushed over the 26-year-old blonde beauty. "She's more deserving than anyone I know. She's worked her tail off since she was a kid and she is exceptional in every way," he raved.

Carol, a longtime Hollywood producer who has produced films like "Dead Ringers", "Father of the Bride" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", ripped Sydney apart during a discussion in Pleasantville, N.Y., with New York Times film critic Janet Maslin. "There's an actress who everybody loves now - Sydney Sweeney," she said, according to Daily Mail.

"I don't get Sydney Sweeney. I was watching on the plane Sydney Sweeney's movie because I wanted to watch it," she added, referring to "Anyone But You". She went on to note, "I wanted to know who she is and why everybody's talking about her... I watched this unwatchable movie- sorry to people who love this movie - [this] romantic comedy where they hate each other."

Referencing the producing class she teaches at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, the producer recalled, "I said to my class, 'Explain this girl to me. She's not pretty, she can't act. Why is she so hot?' " She continued, "Nobody had an answer but then the question was asked, 'Well if you could get your movie made because she was in it, would you do it?' "

Sydney herself has fired back at Carol. Through her representative, she issued a statement that read, "How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman."

"If that's what she's learned in her decades in the industry and feels is appropriate to teach to her students, that's shameful," the message further read. "To unjustly disparage a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Ms. Baum's character."
