Posting on Instagram for the first time in several months, the disgraced actress thanks fans for their 'overwhelming support' in Mera's return in 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom'.

AceShowbiz - Amber Heard is grateful for her role in "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" despite reports of her reduced screen time. Returning to Instagram for the first time in six months, the actress spoke up on her return in the long-delayed sequel.

"After all this time, Aquaman 2 made its splash (sorry, it's too easy)," the Mera depicter wrote on Wednesday, January 3, apologizing for the pun. Expressing her gratitude for fans' support, she continued, "Thank you to all of my fans for the overwhelming support and love in Mera's AQ return. Thank you so much #aquaman."

In the same post, Heard shared several behind-the-scenes pictures taken during the filming of the movie. She gave a close-up look at her sporting Mera's red hair in one snap. The post also included a rare photo of her daughter Oonagh as she was feeding the infant on the set of "Aquaman 2".

Heard first played the role of Mera in 2017's "Justice League" before reprising her role in the first solo Aquaman movie in 2018. While she was attached to the sequel, her role in "The Lost Kingdom" was put into question during her much-publicized defamation trial against her ex-husband Johnny Depp.

In her testimony, the 37-year-old actress claimed she "fought hard" to stay in the movie. "They didn't want to include me in the film," she said in court, before divulging her "very pared down version of that role."

"I was given a script," she said. "Then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving any spoilers away. Two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch."

In September 2023, James Wan, who returned to helm "Aquaman 2", addressed rumors that Heard's involvement in the sequel was watered down. "I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first 'Aquaman' was Arthur (Jason Momoa) and Mera's (Heard) journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm (Patrick Wilson)," the director told EW. "So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie. We'll leave it at that."
