AceShowbiz - Brie Larson appears to be unfazed by the low opening numbers of "The Marvels". The actress has bragged about having the "best team," which consisted of her and her female co-stars, after the movie is reported to have posted the worst opening weekend in MCU history.

The Carol Danvers depicter gushed over her co-stars Teyonah Parris, who portrays Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani, who stars as Kamala Khan a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, as she shared pictures from behind the scenes of the movie on Sunday, November 12. Other snaps also captured her with crew members, including her makeup team. "best team #TheMarvels," she simply captioned the shots.

Larson showed her pride for "The Marvels" despite the movie's disappointing box office performance. According to studio estimates on Sunday, the superhero movie opened with just $47 million, less than a third of the $153.4 million its predecessor launched with in 2019.

It's a new low for a Walt Disney Co.-owned Marvel movie after "Ant-Man" bowed with $57.2 million in 2015. Marvel films outside the MCU, like Universal's "The Incredible Hulk" ($55.4 million in 2008), Sony's "Morbius" ($39 million in 2022) and 20th Century Fox's "Fantastic Four" reboot ($25.6 million in 2015), do not count into this.

The movie received mixed responses, with 62% of 273 critics rating it fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences surveyed by CinemaScore gave it an average grade of B. David A. Gross, who runs the movie consulting firm Franchise Research Entertainment, called it "an unprecedented Marvel box-office collapse." He added, "The strikes hurt the film's marketing, but that's not what's driving these numbers."

Internationally, "The Marvels" also fell short of expectations with $63.3 million from 51 territories for a worldwide start of $110 million. Disney had hoped to generate at least $140 million globally in the movie's first weekend. The tentpole cost roughly $220 million to produce and $100 million for promotions.

"The Marvels" was this weekend's only new nationwide release, so it easily debuts atop the North American box office despite the weak opening. The rest of the top five belong to holdovers, with "Five Nights at Freddy's" placing second with an estimated $9 million.

"Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" drops to the third place with approximately $5.9 million, bringing its domestic gross to $172.5 million for a worldwide cume of $240.9 million so far. "Priscilla" places fourth this week with an estimated $4.8 million, while Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" is fifth with approximately $4.6 million.
