While insisting that it's a good thing that her children's needs are to be met, the 'Sex and the City' star also strikes to instill certain values in them.

AceShowbiz - Sarah Jessica Parker thinks children "should pine for things." The "Sex and the City" star, who has son James, 20, and 14-year-old twin daughters Marion and Tabitha with her husband Matthew Broderick, insisted while she wants her children's needs to be met, she also strikes to instill certain values in them.

Appearing on the "Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi" podcast, she said, "I think it's a great way of living for children that their needs are met-to be fed, safe and loved, the important things in life: books and food and interesting experiences, and they're warm in the winter and cool in summer. But they should pine for things, they should want things. And we should also be interested in, how do they contribute to the things?"

The 58-year-old actress revealed she and her loved ones "cook every night" as a way to bond as a family. She added, "We cook every night. It's a source of huge amount of pride for everybody."

They love cooking as a family so much, they very rarely order takeaways and the "Hocus Pocus" star finds the process "so confusing". She explained, "It's also mystifying because we just don't order in as a family. And on the rare occasion we have, but we always hear other families, they do it and then one kid orders from this place and one kid, it's so confusing."

When it comes to rustling up their own meals, her family cook almost every night of the week, and make time for the communal aspect of a "Sunday dinner". She said, "We really do cook five to six nights a week for sure. We have always have a Sunday dinner-we invite people."

Although Sarah and Matthew have kept their children and family life out of the spotlight over the years, she did share her pride for son James in a sweet birthday message back in October. She wrote on Instagram at the time, "All the feelings I had ever known, deeper, magnified and in brilliant new colors. Today the kaleidoscope spins with all the memories. In all the glorious shapes, changes and perspectives you have brought to our lives. Happy birthday my son. I love you so."
