Having shown his interest in reprising his Marvel role after 2022's 'Multiverse of Madness', the 'Sherlock' star teases that he's set to film scenes for an upcoming MCU project next year.

AceShowbiz - Benedict Cumberbatch isn't done playing Doctor Strange. While Disney has not officially greenlit a third "Doctor Strange" movie, the British actor has hinted at his return as the Marvel superhero in an upcoming movie.

The Primetime Emmy Award winner and two-time Oscar nominee teased that he will be filming scenes for an upcoming MCU project in 2024. "There are some Marvel capers in the making next year," he said while being a guest in the JW3 Speaker Series.

Cumberbatch did not elaborate further on his return as Doctor Strange, so it remains unclear if he was referring to a standalone "Doctor Strange" threequel or if he's making an appearance in another film in the MCU like "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty", which was recently delayed a year from May 2025 to May 1, 2026.

Cumberbatch last portrayed the neurosurgeon-turned-sorcerer in 2022's "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness". In a post-credit scene, Charlize Theron appears as Clea and tells Doctor Strange that "he caused an incursion and we're going to fix it." When Clea asks Strange if he's afraid, he says, "Not in the least."

In a May 2022 interview with Extra TV, the 46-year-old shared his belief that the scenes set him up "for a really exciting future" in the MCU. "I really can't wait to see what the fan reaction is to this and where it takes Strange, and who he is by the end of the film. But I think it sets him up for a really exciting future," he gushed.

Later in June, he also expressed his interest in reprising the role. "I hope so," he said about returning for a potential third film. "I would love to do another one. Doctor Strange is such a complex character and it feels like there is so much more to explore with him. He is such a brilliant character and I'm still having a wild time playing him."
