AceShowbiz - Lil Uzi Vert's highly-anticipated album "Pink Tape" is finally out. While it is such great news for fans, some of them questioned why Playboi Carti was left off the record.
The project hit streaming services on Friday, June 30, but the tracklist was unveiled one day prior. The likes of Travis Scott (II), Nicki Minaj, Don Toliver and other artists appear on the album, but Carti's name was nowhere to be seen.
It came as a surprise considering that Uzi had teased a Carti feature since earlier this year. When performing at Rolling Loud California in March, the non-binary emcee previewed an unreleased track where they highlighted the tensions in their long-standing friendship but said they cherish the latter. "Shout out to Carti, we don't talk hardly, but that's where my heart be," Uzi spits on the tune.
A few weeks later, the "Just Wanna Rock" rhymer again hinted at a collaboration with Carti and promised the duo would dominate with their upcoming music. "Me and my luv about 2 take over the world," JT's longtime partner declared on their Instagram Story.
Uzi has been teasing "Pink Tape" since 2021. When speaking about the record, the Generation Now artist told HipHopDX, "I'm feeling really good about it... Usually, I'll pump myself up even if I don't feel really good, and I'll be like 'oh this is it.' " They added, "[I do that] just to like give myself that extra push but this time I really kind of think this is it."
In March, Uzi divulged to TMZ that they were working on the album amid their sobriety journey. "It was challenging at first. But then after probably after a month, I got used to it," the rap star, who uses they/them pronouns, declared. "I thought that my creative process wasn't going to be the same because I wasn't on drugs no more."
"It was the same. Even better. Because I could think more clear and I could actually, like, instead of my words slurring, which is kinda of cool, everything made sense," they further shared. "I didn't just make random music. How can I say? I didn't play off the beat. I actually made song with topics this time."
