The "Glass" star kept the somber demeanor even when the names of his fellow nominees were read. He then appeared to give a slight eye roll and reluctantly applaud when Brandon Uranowitz was announced as the winner for his role in "Leopoldstadt".

Social media soon turned the moment into a meme, with many commenting on Jackson's less-than-pleased reaction. "wow samuel l. jackson DOES NOT want to be at the tony's," someone reacted to the actor's shocking expression.

Another weighed in, "Samuel L. Jackson does not have good non-winner face. I'm sure his eye roll will be a meme." A third social media user admitted, "Samuel L. Jackson's face took me all the way out."

"He looks like he knew he wasn't getting the Tony," a fourth person speculated. Someone else wrote, "Samuel L Jackson didn't look happy," adding a laughing emoji.

Some fans, however, could relate to Jackson's supposed feelings for losing the award. "Samuel L. Jackson didn't win. I'm done watching the Tony's. I rarely watch awards shows, but I watched this one for that reason," someone reacted to the actor's loss. Another agreed as noting, "Watching the Tonys and SLJ did not get the featured actor award for the Piano Lesson. You could tell he was disappointed."

Later when Jackson presented the award for Best Play with his wife, the "Avengers: Endgame" star poked fun at his loss. As he took the stage as a presenter, he introduced himself as, "I am Samuel L. 'It's an honor to be nominated' Jackson."
