AceShowbiz - Drake Bell is getting divorced by his wife one week following his disappearance. Janet Von Schmeling is reportedly seeking to end her four-year marriage with the actor by filing for divorce on Thursday, April 20.
In legal documents obtained by TMZ, Janet says she and Drake have separated since September 2022. She cites the usual irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and is seeking primary legal and physical custody of their 2-year-old son Wyatt.
Janet wants Drake to be granted visitation rights and she's also seeking spousal support. Drake has not responded to Janet's divorce filing.
It was reported back in January that Drake and Janet had split as he began treatment for his substance abuse issue. The actress reportedly left the "Drake & Josh" alum as she has "had enough" after the 36-year-old actor was caught huffing balloons in his car in December 2022. She allegedly moved back to Florida with their son and additionally closed on a home with the support of her family following their split.
One week before the divorce filing, Drake was reported missing on Thursday, April 13, prompting a search by the Daytona Beach police. A few hours later, police confirmed they found him alive and well.
Drake later took to Twitter to address his missing reports, claiming that it was misunderstanding simply because he misplaced his phone. "You leave your phone in the car and don't answer for the night and this?" he tweeted, adding a face with tears of joy emoji.
It was reported that Drake threatened suicide before he was reported missing. According to TMZ, his brother Robert told Orlando PD that the actor was suicidal after having a "falling out" with his estranged wife Janet over child custody issues.
Robert told cops Drake was "distraught and made suicidal statements" in texts to their mother. He allegedly said he didn't want to live anymore, was going to drink excessively and hang himself. Robert said that he tried to make Drake come to his senses but it was to no avail, so he decided to call police.
On Monday, April 17, Janet shared photos from her son's 2nd birthday party, but Drake seemed to have missed the celebration. It's unclear if he did not receive an invite to the party or if he decided to skip the soiree.
