Set ten years after events in the first film, the fifth installment in the supernatural horror film series sees the family delving deeper into the mysteries of The Further.

AceShowbiz - The evil spirits from the past come back to haunt the Lamberts in "Insidious: The Red Door". Sony Pictures Entertainment has released the first trailer for the movie, showing the family confronting their suppressed memories.
Set ten years after events in the first film, the upcoming fifth installment follows the Lamberts as Dalton (Ty Simpkins), the eldest of the three Lambert children, goes to college. Josh, the patriarch, (Patrick Wilson), is haunted by his terrifying memories and soon he realizes that the demons are still coming after them.
"Our family has been keeping secrets. They suppressed our memories," Josh says in the trailer. "But I can still feel something following us." The evil spirits also come through Dalton's artworks as he begins painting haunting images of The Further, a parallel dimension inhabited by ghosts and demons that try to claim Dalton's soul in the past.
According to the official synopsis, "To put their demons to rest once and for all, Josh and a college-aged Dalton must go deeper into The Further than ever before, facing their family's dark past and a host of new and more horrifying terrors that lurk behind the red door."
The film marks Wilson's directorial debut, with the original cast, including Rose Byrne and Andrew Astor, returning for the upcoming movie. Also starring Sinclair Daniel and Hiam Abbass, it is the first "Insidious" film not to be written by Leigh Whannell. "Halloween Kills" scribe Scott Teems takes over the scriptwriting duties based on a story developed by Whannell.
Byrne told Collider in February about Wilson's idea for the new movie, "He really wanted to make it about the origin story, about the original cast, about those characters, and the affect on the family. Then also to delve into the classic horror stuff, and all the tropes and all of the things the fans love, to give the fans what they want too."
"So it was really cool to reunite with Ty, and that was wild revisiting that. I got a thrill out of that. It was a lot of fun," she added. "['Insidious'] had this built-in audience for now over a decade. ... When you have such a fan base, it's awesome to revisit all of those characters again."
Serving as a direct sequel to "Insidious" (2010) and "Insidious: Chapter 2" (2013), "Insidious: The Red Door" is set to be unleashed in U.S. theaters on July 7.
