While Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert are willing to return for the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical, talks have reportedly 'stalled' because the studio doesn't want to pay the actresses 'what they are worth.'

AceShowbiz - An all-star "Mean Girls" reunion now has a slimmer chance to happen. While original cast members, including Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert, have reportedly agreed to return for the new movie, talks have "stalled" over Paramount Pictures' "disrespectful" money offer.

A highly placed production source tells Page Six, "Paramount Pictures doesn't want to pay the girls what they are worth." Seemingly placing the blame on the studio, the source adds, "All four girls were willing to come back, but Paramount has not been respectful of what they are worth."

According to the site, McAdams, who played queen bee Regina George in the 2004 movie, was initially offered a larger part to play than the other three, but the deal has not been signed off. "As of now, the negotiations are stalled," the source says.

Tina Fey, who wrote both the original movie and Broadway musical, is reprising her role as math teacher Ms. Norbury, in addition to writing and producing the upcoming movie. She reportedly landed a seven-figure deal for her acting role, but Lohan & Co. were said to be offered a "fraction" of that.

Neither of the actresses nor the studio have responded to the report.

The original "Mean Girls" movie was released in 2004 and follows a naive teenage girl, Cady Heron (Lohan), as she navigates her way through the social hierarchy of a modern American high school after years of her parents homeschooling her while conducting research in Africa.

The teen comedy film received critical acclaims and was a commercial success, grossing $130 million worldwide and developing a cult following. It was followed by a made-for-TV sequel, "Mean Girls 2", which premiered on ABC Family in 2011 and a musical adaptation which launched in 2018.

In January of this year, Chabert talked about making a cameo appearance in the new movie. "Absolutely! I mean, I'd love to know what Gretchen's up to these days!" said the actress, who portrayed Gretchen Wieners, an insecure rich girl and a member of the Plastics who only wants Regina's acceptance.
