The 45-year-old Blink-182 drummer reveals in a new interview with Men's Health that the 2018 incident makes him stop using prescription drugs, calling it his own 'rehab.'

AceShowbiz - Travis Barker almost lost his life when he was involved in a plane crash back in 2008. While it was such a terrifying experience, the Blink-182 drummer admitted that it was something that he's grateful for as it served as his "wake-up call."

The 45-year-old revealed in an interview with Men's Health that the incident made him stop using prescription drugs. "People are always like, 'Did you go to rehab?' " he said. "And I [say], 'No, I was in a plane crash.' That was my rehab."

He went on saying, "Lose three of your friends and almost die? That was my wake-up call. If I wasn't in a crash, I would have probably never quit." The plan crash killed his security guard Charles "Che" Still, his assistant Chris Baker, the pilot Sarah Lemmon and co-pilot James Bland.

Travis and his longtime collaborator DJ AM, whose real name was Adam Michael Goldstein, survived though AM died a year later from a prescription drug overdose. Meanwhile, Travis suffered from third-degree burns on 65 percent of his body and underwent several surgeries and skin grafts.

He mentioned in the interview that following the tragedy, he and AM sought out support groups to help cope with it but they ended up being each other's therapists. "So it was just him and me. When he left, I was like, 'Oh, f**k. I'm the only one in my club. It's just me.' And I find my ways to deal with it," he said.

He then decided to flush medicine "including stuff that I really needed" after his opioid tolerance started to rise with each surgery.

Prior to his death, AM said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, "There's no reason why I lived and they didn't. It's something that I struggle with every day, you know, kind of wondering. But I've just realized I'm never really going to know." He added, "I'm alive, and I'm here, and I have another chance. So I have to do something better with my life this time."
